| Medical
Facilities:
Two
medical clinics service the Lusk area, open Monday through Friday.
Currently the hospital and nursing home are
undergoing renovations, closed in the spring of 2000, it is to re-open
in the fall of 2004. The new Niobrara Health and
Life
Center
will include a 24/7 Emergency Room, 4 Acute Care beds, and 20 long
term care beds. It will also include a Rural Health Clinic and
will offer laboratory and radiology services.

| Day Care: Newcastle has
three
licensed day care centers and several private day care centers.
Upton is in the process of obtaining a licensed daycare facility. Senior Citizens' Centers And Senior Housing are available in
Newcastle and in Upton. Upton has recently built a senior citizens' housing complex.
Churches: Churches of various
faiths and denominations serve Weston County.

Museum And Cultural Attractions:
Weston County is rich in history, scenic beauty and abundant wildlife. There are
several "loop tours" that offer distinctive opportunities for sightseeing. Among
them include the Beaver Creek Loop Tour.
One can also tour Dinosaur fossil areas, view abandoned
homesteads along country roads and tour old stage stations lying in ruins amidst
spectacular mountain scenery. To the north of Newcastle lies the ruins of Cambria, a
company town peopled by miners and their families and immigrants from 23 nations.
These are all on private property and permission must be obtained from
the owners. Some landowners charge a fee.
In addition, Newcastle boasts the Anna Miller Museum and Upton, the Red Onion Museum,
places where one can walk back in time and relive the old west. The Anna Miller museum is
built out of 18 inch hand-hewn sandstone blocks, quarried from nearby Salt
Creek and is listed on the national register of historic places.Library:
Newcastle has a library with a total of 34,836
volumes.
Upton has a library with a total of 9,520 volumes . Weston
County libraries have access to the inter-library loan system. |
PARKS AND RECREATION |
| Recreational Facilities:
Archery ranges, shooting ranges, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, bowling and
movie theaters. Baseball fields, tennis courts, bike paths, soccer fields, parks and
picnic tables are available and especially popular during Summer. Both towns have
ice-skating rinks. Golf Courses: The Town of Upton
has a beautiful nine-hole golf course, which has a creek that winds its way between the
greens. Newcastle also has an attractive nine-hole golf course. |
